Title: Packings, Witnesses, and Repeated Geometric Structures
Abstract:
This talk will cover three quick vignettes:
- An initial exercise in trying to pack cylinders into volumes, with possible applications to understanding RNA structure
- A method for recovering simplicial complexes that capture the topology and geometry of 3- and higher-dimensional sampled data, such as those that might arise in large-scale simulations
- An algorithm that automatically detects repeated structures and other regular patterns in 3D geometry, without prior knowledge of either the repetition pattern or the repeating element
